Sodium Hypochlorite
Share
Sodium Hypochlorite (SH for short) is one of the most common chemicals used for cleaning in the soft washing industry. SH is the active ingredient in bleach 2-4% and pool shock 6-10%. Industry professionals will typically purchase SH in 10-12.5% strengths and then dilute the chemical using proportioners or downstream injectors. Sodium hypochlorite is designed to kill organics, loosening their hold on surfaces and making them easier to rinse. SH does not clean oil, grease, soot, smoke, or other non-organics.
Sodium hypochlorite is extremely corrosive. This means any component of a soft wash system that is exposed to SH will need regular maintenance or replacement. Long-time skin exposure to SH can to severe chemical burns or scarring. It’s important to handle sodium hypochlorite with the proper protective equipment, including goggles, gloves, and respirators.
You can purchase Sodium Hypochlorite at local pool suppliers or pool distribution centers.
