Managing Sodium Hypochlorite

SH and Heat

When Sodium Hypochlorite interacts with hot surface the fumes put off can be extremely harsh and irritating to the smell. Every technician should be wearing respirator protection, especially when interacting with Sodium Hypochlorite applications.

SH Run Off

When spraying a roof, be mindful of the amount of potential run off that can come off the roof or into the gutters. Sodium Hypochlorite can kill organics, grass, trees, bushes, plants, or gardens. Ensure no water collection systems are set up divert all Sodium Hypochlorite run off to areas of the property that will not damage landscaping or the environment.

Overspray

When spraying soft wash solution, you want to make sure that you are using a controlled spray and that you are mindful of every angle. Do not spray in angles were you have low visibility. Watch your overspray by having a helper spraying the landscaping with water and watching for traffic.

Metal Garage Doors

Metal doors can become extremely hot and the soft wash solution can flash oxidize when applied. Thoroughly douse the doors in water too cool them BEFORE applying a soft wash solution. Do not allow the solution to dry. Stay present and wet periodically until the solution has had 15 minutes of dwell time. Then, thoroughly rinse.

Key Holes

Soft wash solution can easily get into keyhole and corrode the tiny pins inside. Cover the entire door knob with plastic bags and rubber bands to guarantee nothing gets inside or damages the brass.

If the solution has already made its way into a keyhole, a good solution would be White Lithium Grease. Simple spray in a small amount and move the key in and out of the hole quickly.

Electronics & Exposed Wiring

As stated above, Sodium Hypochlorite is extremely corrosive. Even the smallest exposure can short out or destroy electronics. Protect cameras, door bells, spotlights and exposed wiring with bags and rubber bands. Property protection is simple and important to creating the best customer experience.
