Types of Spigots

Hose Bib (Sillcoks)

A hose bib is going to be the most common water source a technician will interact with on residential properties. This uses a standard 3/4" Garden Hose Thread (GHT) attachment and no other special tooling is required. Residential homes may deliver 3-6 GPM consistently. There are rare cases of areas that will put out more but rarely less.

Understanding your the flow rate out of a tap will help you determine if you need to be filling a buffer tank or can plumb directly into the pressure washer. It is recommended to use a buffer tank with pressure washers over 4 GPM.

To determine a properties flow rate, you can purchase a Flow Rate Meter along side a 1" NPT x 3/4" GHT Adapter to attach to standard spigots.

Wall Hydrant

Wall hydrants are going to be common on commercial properties. The purpose behind a wall hydrant to deliver high volumes of water while limiting the ease of access to passerbyers. Typically a special key is needed to turn these on. You can find a Wall Hydrant Key in any hardware store or online. The wall hydrant may be recessed in a panel for added security.

Yard Hydrant

Yard hydrants are typically going to be found on more rural or larger properties. These are often tied directly into a well water system. These can be convenient as they can be found at different parts of the property than traditionally along side the home. No special equipment or tooling is required. They use a standard 3/4" GHT connection.
