City Water Vs Well Water

Technicians will encounter many different properties and determining the water source can change the flow of the job. The two main types of water source found on a property will be supplied by the city (or on a grid system) or by a well on private property.

City Water

With city water, the source is a public water system that has been treated and distributed to homes and businesses. In a community, the water pressure will be fairly consistent and range between 3-6 GPM.

Well Water

Well water is sourced nearby on private property. A few properties can share a well or a well can be dedicated to one residence. Wells can vary in GPM wildly based on home many homes are sharing the source, the strength and age of the pump, the distance from the pump, and whether the pump is uphill or downhill.

Filtration System

Many homes on well water and some homes on city water will have a filtration system in or around the home. These are usually water deionizers or water softeners to remove additional impurities from the water supply. Make sure you are connecting to a water supply line that comes BEFORE the filtration begins. If not, you will be drawing many gallons of water through their filtration system effectively aging the filters faster.
