ASPHALT

ASPHALT

RECOMMENDED EQUIPMENT:

  • Pressure Washer: 8 GPM or better, 3000 PSI or better

AVERAGE CLEANING RATE:

500-1000 sq ft per hour

IMPORTANT NOTES:

High pressure should NOT be used on asphalt sealed surfaces. High pressure can damage or remove the seal coating on an asphalt surface. The best way to clean asphalt is with a Asphalt Scrubber/Sweeper/Collector. These are large specialty machines designed to agitate the organics and sweep the surface clean.

It's also recommended that asphalt surfaces have a seal coating reapplied after cleaning.

If you have communicated to that customer the risk of damage and they have accepted, there are a few methods of cleaning.

RECOMMENDED SCOPE OF WORK:

Before beginning, ensure you have completed all the steps in the Worksite Preparation Guide.

  1. CLEAR SURFACE

Use a wide mouth, large orifice nozzle (like a black soap nozzle or M5 Twist) to rinse the entire surface or a blower. The goal is to remove all the loose dirt and debris from the surface.

  2. LIGHT PRESSURE WASH

Use a partial open ball valve to create a medium pressure, high flow, water spray. Use this to scrub the surface. Remain 12-18 inches away from the asphalt at all times. Move the ball valve in a back and forward motion to remove dirt, debris, and organics.

  3. RINSE & INSPECT

Once the entire surface has been cleaned, it's time to rinse. Use partially open ball valve or a M5 Nozzle to rinse the entire surface clean. Inspect the concrete for any missed spots, post cleaning damage, or any other defects. Use the method outlined in the previous step  to touch up these spots.

BRUSH SCOPE OF WORK:

Before beginning, ensure you have completed all the steps in the Worksite Preparation Guide.

  1. CLEAR SURFACE

Use a wide mouth, large orifice nozzle (like a black soap nozzle or M5 Twist) to rinse the entire surface or a blower. The goal is to remove all the loose dirt and debris from the surface.

  2. BAKING SODA APPLICATION

Generously apply baking soda across the entire surface. Dampen baking soda with a light mist of water. Use a stiff brush to scrub the baking soda in a circular motion. Allow 24-48 hour dwell time. Wait for the moss to die and become brown

  3. BRUSH HEAVILY

With a stiff bristle brush, scrub the moss to loosen. Use a shovel or blower to move debris as you clean.

  4. RINSE & INSPECT

Once the entire surface has been cleaned, it's time to rinse. Use partially open ball valve or a M5 Nozzle to rinse the entire surface clean. Inspect the surface for any missed spots, post cleaning damage, or any other defects. Use the method outlined in the previous step  to touch up these spots.
